Long Lawford rainfall :

Exceptionally dry.
Driest of any month srb Feb 2011 (cf April 2011 4.5mm)
April 2007 having just 5mm = driest month recorded at Walsgrave, Coventry 1981 -2010

Actual: 1.6mm

CL: 1.4mm (3%)

Long Lawford: 1.6mm (3%)
Wettest day: 1.0mm 3rd
Rain days: 2
Over 1mm: 1
Over 10mm: 0
Dry spell: 15 days 16th - 30th

LL June 2018 1.6mm total just 3% of the 1941-70 average for Rugby town (S Burt).

This the driest of any month since records began in 2011 (previous driest April 2011 4.5mm). My parents measured rain fall at Walsgrave, Coventry some 6 miles WNW of Long Lawford from 1981 to 2011 and the driest month was 5.0mm in April 2007. In 'The Climate of Rugby: Part 2, Rainfall (JM v1,5) February 1976 (S Burt) the driest months historically at Rugby (since 1855) were April 1938 and June 1925 both with 0.6mm. February 1891 (1.0mm) and February 1959 (1.1mm) were also drier with March 1931(1.6mm) having the same amount as June 2018.
June 2018 has therefore been one of driest, and certainly in the top 10 driest months since 1855 in the Rugby area.

July 2018 Llanwnnen, Ceredigion

Very warm, quite sunny and dry

Mean max 24.7c = warmest for any month (srb 2006, July 2006 23.9c).
Mean temp 17.6c = second warmest of any month (17.7c July 2006).
Warmth all down to maxima as mean minima close to average.
Total rain 44.8mm = driest July since 2014 (34.6mm).
44% of the historical 1916-50 Falcondale, Lampeter average.
47% of the Llanwnnen 2006-18 average.

First partial drought recorded here (must be at least 29 consecutive days having an average daily rainfall below 0.25mm) there were two such spells the longest of 41 days (ended 28th)
Second sunniest July srb 2013 (278 hrs July 2013).
Sunshine total 222 hours 123% of MO map average and 125% of 2013-18 average here.

1st - 9th very warm to very hot, dry and very sunny. The exceptional heatwave from late June lasted well into July. The average maximum temperature here from June 24th to July 9th being an unprecedented 29.0c. Highest reading being 30.9c 2nd with 30.3c reached 8th. Virtually unbroken sunshine from cloudless skies prevailed on 6 of these first 9 days, with an estimated 15.5 hours on 8th and 9th. 113 hours estimated sunshine 1st - 9th combined with the 134 hours June 22nd - 30th this made an unprecedented sunny spell having 247 hours in just 18 days. Nights were thankfully refreshingly cool at around average (11c), the warmest night of this spell being 14.7c 2nd. Not a completely dry start to the month however, as there was a short shower on the evening of the 1st giving 1.3mm.

10th - 15th dry and warm or very warm with cloud and sunny spells. An end to the remarkable Summer 2018 heatwave, back to a more typical spell of Summer weather with much more cloud, though remaining dry and with by now a partial drought (must be at least 29 days where the average daily fall is less than 0.25mm). The dry spell 14 days reached long by 15th while the partial drought so far is 36 days (June 10th to July 15th, total 6.2mm). Maxima in the 22 to 27c range being much more comfortable, although some nights quite warm (min 14.9c 11th) others were cool (min 5.3c 14th).

16th – 24th still quite warm but much more cloudy. The dry spell ended with some showers 16th giving just 1.7mm so not quite enough to break the partial drought. There was also a little rain and drizzle 20th to 24th not amounting to much still. The odd day was warm/ very warm and sunny however, 13 hours sunshine 19th, while 22nd reached 26.1c. Nights varied depending on cloud cover, min 4.1c 19th was close to a grass frost and the lowest of the month while others remained above 14c.

25th -26th clear cool nights, both min 4.4c, a sunny interlude with a brief taste of heat again 26th (max 29.8c). Diurnal range 26th 25.4c greatest recorded here.

27th - 31st a much cooler unsettled end to the month as the UK came under the influence of Atlantic lows for the first time in a several months. A lot of cloud, some sunny intervals. An end to the partial drought that had lasted 41 days since June 16th (9.3mm fell) and with just 44.3mm falling since May 2nd (12 weeks) this rivalling the most prolonged historical dry spells in the area. The spell broke with a thunderstorm in the early hours of 28th, there was then more prolonged wet weather 29th (23.8mm) which at last soaked the ground. Max 17.7c 28th was the lowest of the month, it was also quite windy 28th/ 29th.

Exceptionally wet spell second week, 150.8mm in 3 days (74% of months total).
Total rain 203.2mm = wettest October since 2013 (214.2mm).

80.6mm 12th = easily the wettest day recorded here (beat 55.5mm 16th July 2009). On par with the wettest days locally historically such as 86mm at Crybin 28th Oct 1989 (3 miles NW of here).
Mean temperature 9.4c (-1.4c) = second coolest October srb 2006 (these have generally been mild over the past few decades).
Rather cool month overall in spite of having attained 22.2c 10th . Cold frosty spell month end took it below average.
Exceptional October frosts month end, min -8.0c 30th smashed the record from 2010 (-5.6c). Last 3 nights all below -4c, unprecedented for October.
