Nature notes:

Mon 3rd before dusk another gathering of House Martin (cf end Sept) with 15 or so above the village feeding up.

Thu 6th 4 or 5 Red Admirals on a profuse Buddleia by the Co-op Lampeter.

First few Redwings heard overhead after dark one evening first week.

Sat 8th Speckled Wood by Aberystwyth Castle.

Fine berry Season this in particular Holly and Rowan, rarely seen the like.

Mon 10th Forestry a few Foxgloves in bloom (often seems to happen in Autumn). A few Redwing.

Mid month plenty of flowers out still what with lack of frost and reasonable sunshine still.

One case of Apple blossom on the large tree (brought on by recent pruning no doubt).

Ash leaves starting to be shed.

Orange Hawkweed (Fox & Cubs) still going well.

Still a couple of Sunflowers in bloom (small ones by now)

Sat 15th Forestry Kestrel hovering above the slope down to the main road - unusual to see one around here.

Leaf fall starting in earnest after mid month. Bit of an influx of Blackbirds to the back garden after mid month (residents or migrants given there were few about during September?).

Thu 20th Aberystwyth several thousand Starling before dusk, surprised this early and with it being nice and warm still! A couple of Turnstone feeding at high tide in the seaweed below the wall and immediately below all the people on the Prom above, they were under 10 metres away a great view.

Thu 20th evening plenty of Redwing heard passing over at Llanrhystud and back home.

Sun 23rd a few Fieldfare on fields opposite the school.

With the mildness of October and lack of frost vegetation continues to grow and with plenty of blooms on the go still too. The Lords & Ladies by the shed has fresh leafage!

Fri 29th surprised to hear a Song Thrush singing quite well from the back garden (they are usually silent August to February).

Month end still quite a few insects and moths about; quite a few Apples still on some trees.
