Nature notes

Thu 8th might have caught a Chiffchaff calling amongst a mixed flock of Tits this afternoon?

October almost as lush, fresh and green as April, all the new post drought growth and warmth, like Dandelions (some flowering), Cow Parsley, RW Plantain, Nettles.

Tue 13th S Forestry think a late Swallow calling and headed south early evening. First few Redwings calling from a plantation by the quarry.

Fri 16th Aberystwyth: first Starlings of the Autumn 1000 tops though, brief mini murmurations then they swooped under well before sunset.

Sun 18th Forestry Redwings and a few Fieldfare dusk.

Wed 21st S Forestry seen an unusual BOP past few visits since late Sept over the new plantation by the quarry. Hovering a lot but bigger than a Kestrel and Sparrowhawk, smaller than Kite or Buzzard. Must therefore be a female Hen Harrier? These are not though supposed to hover at height (100 feet) as does this bird. It is Brownish with hint of grey no white rump noticed. Bit of a mystery.

Thu 22nd Aberaeron Fox  'n Cubs flowering in a garden by the park/ river.

Fri 30th Aberystwyth a good 20 Pied Wagtail on the waste ground by the football ground, large Starling numbers sunset some murmuration at least 10000.

Month end much leaf fall past fortnight as most years but still plenty left on.
