Another
average month
Temperatures
were marginally below average and rainfall below average, while
estimated sunshine at 78 hours was above average. A rather benign
month, mostly dry and cold early on it became unsettled and often
rather mild from mid month.
1st
– 11th: Mostly
dry, cold and frosty. A 1cm of snow 2nd
as a NW flow brought some wintry showers, this day also saw the
coldest max of 2.4c. Thereafter pressure rose as an anticyclone
became established over Ireland. Quite sunny 3rd
- 8th
then cloudy with some fog. Some sharp frosts, coldest being night of
2nd
-7.1c, also with -6.8c night of 6th.
Maxima mostly below 5c although 8.3c attained 8th
in the strong sunshine.
12th
– 19th: Unsettled
and quite windy at times, rain at times, especially the 18.3mm 13th.
Temperatures average to mild but still the odd slight frosts when
clear spells permitted. A rather cloudy spell this, although 15th
and 17th
saw better sunny spells.
20th
– 28th: Changeable
with fluctuating temperatures between rather cold and mild.
Occasional rain or showers and windy at times, also some decent sunny
spells...The highest temperature reading of the month occurred 25th
11.3c which was the mildest since 10th
January (11.7c).

Winter
2014/15
An
average Winter, lack of snow
Temperatures
and rainfall very close to average with an absence of extremes.
Estimated sunshine at 188 hours was slightly above average. December
although the mildest month (mean 5.0c) managed both the lowest
maximum 1.8c (4th) and minimum -8.4c (29th).
Snow lay on just 3 mornings throughout the Winter with a maximum
depth of only 3cm (13th). The wettest month was January
with 174.7mm, the wetter spells being interspersed with drier spells
throughout Winter so that no real flooding occurred locally. Wettest
day of Winter 28.2mm January 14th . There were no true
gales during the whole Winter, with by and large an absence of
damaging winds, excepting January 14th when gusts reached
61mph.

March
2015
Another
very average month lacking in extremes; quite sunny
Another
month lacking in extremes bar some cold nights. Highest maximum
temperature just 12.6c (29th) the lowest such value since
March 2006. Rainfall ended up quite close to the average due to an
unsettled final week. Estimated sunshine at 123 hours was above
average.
1st
– 3rd: Unsettled, sunny spells and showers
with hail, rather cold with some frost
4th
– 7th: High pressure close to UK, mostly dry,
alternate cloudy and bright days, became rather mild and windy
8th
– 13th: Unsettled and windy at times;
occasional rain or drizzle. Temperatures mostly average to rather
mild but with some frosty nights
14th
- 17th : Mostly dry and anticyclonic, started
off rather cold with night frost but became milder. Rather cloudy,
although decent sunny spells 17th.
18th
– 22nd: High pressure close by UK, dry and
often sunny/ clear - 19th , 21st and 22nd
all having almost unbroken sunshine. The clear skies and calm
conditions permitted sharp frosts, this area having some of the
lowest readings in the UK, the months coldest night being -5.0c 22nd.
Daytime temperatures recovered to above average.
23rd
– 31st: Unsettled and often quite
windy with rain or showers at times. Cool at first but became average
to quite mild . Often cloudy but some brighter days of sunny
intervals. 28th the mildest day of the month was a poor
12.6c 28th being a mere 2c above the late March average.

April
2015
Dry,
rather warm and sunny
Prolonged spells of
dry, pleasantly warm and sunny weather was the theme this month,
almost an early taste of Summer at times, although still not as dry,
warm and sunny as some other recent Aprils (2007, 2011). Apart from
short cooler unsettled spells at the beginning and end there was
little to interrupt the fine, anticyclonic conditions. The clear
skies did mean that frost was quite a feature as the month recorded
10 air frosts and with
one notably hard frost near the end of the month.
1st
– 3rd:
Mostly cloudy and quite cool with rain and drizzle on and off, 3rd
at max 9.3c was the coolest day of the month.
4th
– 10th:
Dry and soon warm with sunny periods with high pressure close to the
UK. Several days saw unbroken sunshine with 8th
and 9th
reaching 19.6c. Nights however cold and clear with slight frosts.
11th
– 13th:
A cooler and quite windy blip with a little rain but some sunny
spells still.
14th
– 23rd:
Dry and often warm with sunny periods. A prolonged Summer-like spell
with no measurable rain, sunshine unbroken 4 out of the 5 days 18th
– 22nd.
Temperatures peaked at 21.1c 21st
which is very warm for April, the 22nd
and 23rd
also exceeded 20c. The clear skies led to slight overnight frosts
particularly 19th
– 23rd.
24th
– 26th:
Cooler
and cloudier but still mostly dry. Temperatures falling below average
by 26th
which was though a sunny day.
27th
– 30th:
Cool and rather unsettled: -5.0c dawn 27th
was the coldest temperature I have recorded this far into April or
Spring (I recorded -3.7c 5th
May 1996 using a max/min thermometer at a nearby site). The month
ended on a cooler note with some rain and showers but still decent
sunny spells as well. Just a hint of sleet in the showers 27th,
while a frontal system overnight 28th
gave 7.6mm rain – the wettest day of the month.

May
2015
Cool,
breezy and changeable; quite dull and rather wet
An uninspiring May
offering little early warmth of note while not sparing us a relapse
back into Winter (no air frosts).
1st
– 8th: Dull and unsettled with rain and
strong winds at times. Limited sunshine for the start of May with
rain or showers each day, although rarely heavy. Some deep lows over
the UK during 3rd and 5th/ 6th with
gusts to 52mph 5th. Temperatures mostly rather cool.
9th
– 17th: A drier and brighter spell and warmer
at times too, just a little rain at times. Some days still on the
cool side but the 13th managed 19.3c with plentiful
sunshine, the breeze was still nagging however during much of this
mid month period.
18th
/19th: Heavy rain cleared to sunny
intervals and a few brief showers, a cool and fairly windy couple of
days
20th
– 23rd: Often dry and sunny (an
estimated 11.5 hours 21st and 23rd) with
improving temperatures, 20.3c the garden high 22nd
24th
– 28th: Mostly dry
with sunny intervals but quite cool NW breezes. A little rain late
27th.

rain at times and often cool and breezy, some sunny intervals too.

Spring
2015
Fairly
sunny and quite dry, near normal temperatures
A dry, warm and
sunny April ensured Spring ended up with close to average
temperatures, above average sunshine and below average rainfall, even
though May was disappointingly cool and cloudy. No marked extremes
this Spring although late April did see one damaging frost of -5.0c.
There was no snow and no thunder so rather uninteresting a Season,
especially as May failed to deliver a warm spell of note. The highest
temperature somewhat unusually being in April (21.1c on 21st).
The suppressed rainfall meant that at least flooding was not an
issue and the ground was often pleasantly dry for field walking.
Estimated sunshine from 5 minute webcam captures 490 hours (112%).

June
2015
Rather
dry and quite sunny with average temperatures
Often on the cool
side this start to Summer but with several short warm spells it was
prevented from being below average by warmer weather in the final
week which culminated in the hottest June day here in the 10 years
record. A dry month after the 1st which had 27.6mm which
was half the monthly total.
1st
– 2nd: Very cool wet and windy, it was the
wettest June day since 2012 (3.2mm 7th) with winds
reaching 45mph 1st.
3rd
– 8th: Mostly dry and sunny but often quite
cool apart from 4th (21.6c). Quite an intense high
developed over the UK and Ireland the barometer at 1037mbar 8th.
Virtually unbroken sunshine 7th and 8th but the
cool breeze off Cardigan Bay restricted temperatures to just 15c.
Notably cold on several nights, -1.0c and a rare June air frost first
thing 8th was the lowest I have recorded anywhere in June!
9th
– 12th: Dry and warm but became cloudier.
More unbroken sunshine 9th gave an estimated 15 hours.
Sunny intervals but a warm max of 23.9c 11th.
13th:
After a very mild night (min 13.0c) it was cool and cloudy with rain
at times
14th
– 25th: Mostly dry with rather variable
temperatures and sunny intervals. A few days saw a little rain but an
essentially dry spell, sometimes cool, sometimes rather warm,
variable cloud but most days saw some decent sunny intervals. Often
quite breezy.
25th
-28th: A little rain at times but also some
sunny intervals which made it fairly warm if breezy.
29th/
30th: A dry end to June with a
remarkably hot 28.8c and near unbroken sunshine as the finale!

July
2015: Changeable and dull, very cool late on; near average rainfall
Overall
July ended up the coolest since 2012 (14.8c) although mean maxima
were the least since 2008 (18.7c). The final week or so would
probably be comparable with some of the coolest July spells in the
historical record, being thoroughly cool and Autumnal. Rainfall was
close to average with a high frequency of rain days (25). Sunshine
estimated at 144 hours (80%). Remarkably cool penultimate night
(0.7c) with a ground frost.

heatwave of the last day of June continued a while into July, 27.7c
reached 1st
in spite of a lot of cloud, there was some thunder late afternoon.
Much cooler 2nd
but then another warm day with a little thunder once more in the
evening and overnight, so that 3 out of the first 4 days heard
thunder. Small amounts of rain occasionally during this opening
period of the month.
5th
– 14th: Unsettled
and often breezy with rain at times and rather variable temperatures
(mostly average to cool though). Often rather cloudy but with some
dry bright days (especially 9th/
10th
the latter reached 24.1c). 13.0mm fell early 12th
(credited to 11th
rain day) this the wettest
day of the month.
15th
– 22nd:
Sunny
but rather cool 15th,
thereafter rain fell on most days but only in small amounts. Variable
and sometimes large amounts of cloud but quite sunny 18th/
19th.
Often breezy with temperatures near or a little below average.
23rd
– 29th:
Very
cool and unsettled with occasional rain or showers, rather cloudy and
breezy. Notably low maxima at times, none more than the 14.8c of 27th
which is the lowest maximum I have recorded so far into July in the
10 year record, although for July itself the lowest remains 13.7c
(2/7/12). No day 24th
- 29th
exceeded 18c which is almost unprecedented during 'High Summer'. With
all, the cloud nights for the most part did hold up above 10c. Only
an estimated 17 hours sunshine for the 8 days 20th
- 27th.
30th/31st:
A dry fine end to the month. Dawn 31st
produced a ground frost and minimum of +0.7c, the lowest in my 10
year record here (2.9c 2/7/11). Temperatures recovered to near
average during the final day with pleasant sunny spells.

August
2015
Rather
cool, dull and unsettled
Not
as cool as last August (14.0c) although mean minimum at 9.5c equalled
last year. Rainfall was bang on average and drier than August 2014
(143.4mm). Quite an interesting feature was that fog was recorded on
8 mornings but on each one had thinned by 0900 GMT. No thunder or
hail, no frost. Estimated sunshine at 131 hours just 80% of that
estimated from the Met Office avreage maps.
1st
– 18th: Changeable and quite cloudy with some
rain at times but also some decent dry, bright interludes, rainfall
amounts only small (wettest day 6.1mm 5th). Temperatures
variable but often on the cool side, coolest max 15.3c 14th,
while few days were warm (max 24.4c 12th with an estimated
11 hours sunshine). It was rather windy during the first few days in
particular. 14th - 17th saw a run of unusually
cool nights for August, all 4 nights falling below 7c (lowest 2.4c
16th).
19th
– 31st: Unsettled
and rather cloudy with rain or showers at times, some heavy. Over
33mm fell over the weekend 22nd/
23rd
as a low moved north across Wales. Temperatures mostly average or
cool with some mild nights (min 16.6c 21st)
and the afternoon of 22nd
brightened between rain areas and was rather warm and humid (max
22.4c).

Fine
dry June then mostly cool and changeable
July
and August disappointed after a fine dry and quite sunny June. The
months of High Summer being rather cool and dull with rain at times
although no month was wet and Summer overall had slightly below
average rainfall. It was marginally the coolest Summer in my 9 year

September
2015
Rather
cool and changeable; rather warm sunny end
Cool conditions
predominated again this month, although at least maxima made a
recovery in the final week. It was the equal coolest September with
2012 (11.8c) with a mean minimum of 6.6c being the coolest in my
record (only since 2006). In spite of the often rather cloudy weather
of the first 3 weeks or so, the late burst of sun meant it ended up
quite a sunny September with an estimated 158 hours, while rainfall
was rather below average.
1st
– 5th: Cool and changeable; occasional
showers, a few sunny intervals. Supressed temperatures to greet
September continuing the cool theme of August, particularly cool 2nd
max just 13.8c. Rainfall quantities from showers were rather small.
6th
– 11th: High pressure crossed northern UK.
Dry and became rather warm with sunny spells; 8th and 10th
both saw plentiful sunshine (estimated 12 hours 8th).
Chilly nights, min 1.4c 8th and there most likely was a
ground frost. Temperatures peaked for the month at a rather lowly
22.1c 10th.
12th
– 20th: Changeable with some showers and
longer spells of rain, heavy at times, but drier spells as well.
19.2mm fell early 12th (thrown back to 11th),
this spell did however see quite a lot of mostly dry weather, with
much of the rain coming in heavy showers as with 18th and
22nd . Wales missed the rain 16th in spite of
pressure down to 990mbar and a deep low over the Channel, in fact
apart from downpours during the early hours of the 18th
the 16th to 20th was largely dry with some
sunny intervals. Fog formed on many nights during this quieter
interlude. Temperatures varied between cool and rather warm.
21st
– 24th: Cool and unsettled, heavy showers
and some longer spells of rain. The mildest night of the month (11.8c
21st) followed within 36 hours by the lowest maximum
(13.3c 22nd).
25th
– 30th: Dry and mostly warm and sunny, a
couple of night frosts early in the spell: A welcome fine sunny end
to what had been an uninspiring September! The Season's first air
frost first thing 26th with a minimum of -0.4c making
Llanwnnen unofficially the UK cold spot. Temperatures peaked at 19.8c
28th. The very sunny end to the month transformed it into
a rather sunny September total-wise. (an estimated 50 hours in the
last 5 days).

October
2015
Dry
and quite sunny; near average temperatures
The driest October
since 2007 (45mm), rainfall being just 50% of average and with just
14 rain days. A rather sunny month, the estimated total 107 hours
(117%), this due to a sunny first half with only 36 hours second
half. Temperatures close to average overall, however the mean minima
of 5.1c was marginally the lowest I have recorded (5.3c 2010).
1st
– 4th: A dry mild start to the month with
sunny periods although more cloud and lower temperatures 3rd/
4th. There were some frosts by night. The dry spell of
late September ended in the early hours of 5th after 9
successive dry days.
5th
- 7th: Unsettled with variable temperatures;
showers and some longer spells of rain, some very heavy and this a
rather cloudy interlude. Mild nights, rather windy at times.
8th -
20th: A prolonged dry spell with high
pressure over or close to the UK; sunny spells with temperatures by
day mostly average to quite mild but with quite a few slight
overnight frosts, lowest -1.3c 15th. This dry spell lasted
12 days making it the most prolonged
of 2015 (previous 11 days April).
21st
– 29th: Often mild, rather unsettled
with some rain at times: Even in its latter stages October did not
revert to full blown Autumnal conditions, as although rather
unsettled, rainfall amounts were modest and it was often mild. Min
11.9c 27th being equal mildest of the month, indeed the
mildest night since August 26th. More cloudy than than
the first 3 weeks but still with some sunny intervals most days and
it was quite windy at times. Several days were dry or at least
largely dry.
30th/
31st: Very mild, a little rain with some
sunny intervals. The month ended with warm winds arriving from North
Africa, the minimum 31st was 11.9c and maximum 17.1c, this
though well below that of Halloween 2014 which managed an exceptional
19.4c - but then November 1st happened!

November
2015
Very
mild, very dull and very wet
Mildest November
since 2011 (10.4c) with mean minima the highest in my 10 year record
(2011 5.9c) and was appreciably higher than October's (5.1c). The
13.4c min 10th was the highest of the Autumn and just 2
air frost although one was quite hard (-6.1c 23rd). Very
wet with 27 wet days and 10 days of heavy rain (over 10mm) however
well below the total of Nov 2009 (309.4mm) which is the wettest month
I have recorded. Very dull, this remarkably in spite of the first 2
days being very sunny, 16 hours on 1st and 2nd
of an estimated 38 hours in total for the month.
1st/
2nd: Record breaking November warmth for the UK
affected West Wales as temperature records were smashed! Both days
were warm and sunny more akin to early September, we were several
degrees below the 22.4c recorded at Trawsgoed 17 miles to our north
but still managed a remarkable 19.9c on the 1st followed
the next day by maximum 19.2c. Some fog by night and first thing.
3rd
– 19th: Much cooler by day although still
mostly mild or very mild. Unsettled with rain at times, some heavy.
This was a very dull spell, only an estimated 11 hours
sunshine during these 16 days with 7 out of the 10 days
between 8th and 17th sunless. Apart from a
ground frost 3rd this was a frost-free period which is
unusually lengthy for November. It rained each day during this spell
and all were 'wet days' getting over 1.0mm. Some exceptionally mild
nights occurred as warm sectors moved through, none more than minimum
13.4c on 10th which may well be a November record with
12.9c on 15th only marginally lower. Rain although heavy
at times never mounted up enough for flooding locally, the wettest
day being a modest 21.7mm 6th. It was often windy 6th
onwards
20th
– 23rd: A brief cold snap which nonetheless
produced some snow showers and a hard frost. Plentiful wintry showers
through 21st into 22nd which although not
settling did form an icy layer on the latter, also with one rather
loud rumble of thunder in the early hours of 21st. Dry and
bright by day 22nd then first air frost of the month was a
hard one min -6.1c.
24th
– 30th: Unsettled, very dull and often windy.
Frequent spells of rain or showers, heavy at times becoming more
prevalent towards the month end. Hardly any glimpses of the sun, with
an estimated 1 hour in these final 7 days of November, it was one of
the dullest spells I can recall. Mostly mild or very mild excepting
28th which was average. 30th was wet and windy
and the months the wettest day with 25.6mm.

Autumn
2015
Near
normal temperature and rainfall, slightly sunny
A cool September and
very mild November so the Season worked out close to average
temperature wise. Lack of frost, unusually October saw the most frost
having 5 of the Season's 8 air frost. Remarkably the highest minimum
was recorded in November (13.4c 10th)! In spite of the
very wet November the rainfall total was very close to average
(thanks to the dry October). It was the wettest November since 2009
(309.4mm) with 27 wet days and 10 days over 10mm. Estimated sunshine
(using 5 minute webcam image captures) at 303 hours was 112% of the

December
2015
Remarkably
mild and exceptionally wet; dull and windy
Just about the most
astounding month I have experienced for temperatures to have such a
departure from average on a consistent basis. The overall mean at
9.3c was about 5c above average and more like a typical April or
October, in fact we have had cooler May's than this December!
November 2015 was a very mild month and yet December managed to equal
that month figure. A truly astounding month not only for temperature
but also in the end for rainfall as well as the month seems to have
become the second wettest of any month in the local historical record
back to the nineteenth century (January 1974 381mm).
Some of the more
remarkable stats:
Mean maxima almost
5c above average
Mildest December
night record broken 3 times
Highest December
temperature record broken twice
Only 1 air frost,
lowest temperature -0.2c
27 days exceeded 10c
13 days exceeded 12c
(in a typical December this might happen once)
Wettest December and
second wettest of any month locally
31 rain days, 14
days over 10mm, 5 days above 20mm
17 sunless days
1st
– 6th: very mild
and sunless, unsettled and windy. Rain or showers, heavy at times,
some mainly dry days. Very windy 5th
with gusts to 57mph.
7th/
8th: sunny spells
with some rain or showers at times. Exceptionally mild 7th
max 13.9c being my mildest December temperature in 12 year record.
Windy.
9th
– 11th: slight air
frost 9th
which was a mostly dry and mild day. Otherwise near normal maxima
with rain at times and a few sunny intervals, less windy.
12th
– 14th: dull and
mild with rain at times, heavy 12th.
15th
– 19th:
exceptionally mild; dull with spells of rain, windy at times. An
unprecedented mild spell for December, all maxima above 12.9c, and
all minima 16th
- 19th
above 10.8c. My highest December minimum of 11.8c occurred on the
17th
while temperatures peaked at 13.9c in the early hours of the 19th.
Very wet also 19th
with 42mm midnight to midnight and 30.7mm 0900 -0900 making it the
wettest day of the year.
20th
– 31st: Very mild
and very unsettled, periods of wet and windy weather. For the most
part it remained unseasonably mild, with most days exceeding 10c.
Specially mild around Christmas with the temperature remaining above
12c overnight 25th
once more breaking the record for the third time this month. Frequent
rain or showers although a few days were mainly dry. The wettest
weather was 29th/
30th
when over 50mm fell on these 2 days. Often windy with gales at times,
the final 3 days of the month all saw gusts above 50mph. Thunder
